After nine years of quantitative easing in the United States the Federal Reserve has begun their balance sheet runoff. Over the course of quantitative easing, the Fed’s balance sheet amassed $4.5 trillion in assets to help bring the U.S. out of a recession and to stimulate economic growth. As the economy has since returned to full employment and inflation has shown signs of stabilizing, the Fed is now in a position to begin to let the assets on their balance sheet runoff. How will this change in policy impact the bond market?
