Weekly Market Commentary 05/27/2016

If the economy is poised for a respectable rebound over the spring and summer months, as is generally believed, consumers will have to do much of the heavy lifting. By all accounts, businesses are still not ready to expand their capital-spending budgets, exports are battling the headwinds of a strong dollar and weak foreign demand, and the energy as well as the agricultural sectors continue to sag under the weight of an oil glut and weak commodity prices. With the presidential election campaign under way, Washington is not about to unleash any new growth boosting spending programs.
