Climate Risk and the Insurance Industry

December 30, 2019 — Earlier this month, The New York Times published a short note on wildfires and climate change, and their impact on the insurance industry in California. We view what’s happening in California as a microcosm of the challenges facing the insurance industry. As a result of more frequent and costly natural disasters, private insurers and regulators are increasingly trying to find a balance between the availability and affordability for consumers and insurers’ coverage and profitability. We believe the sustainable solution is not a local one, but one that requires global innovation and collaboration.
