Performance Proves Bright Spot for ESG ETFs in 2023

February 5, 2024 — The past two years have cast a spotlight on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing, which has captured attention in both public discourse and the political arena. Although 2023 marked the first year of outflows for sustainable funds in the US in the past decade, most individual investors (77%) are still interested in sustainable investing, according to Morningstar and a survey by Morgan Stanley. In this report, we reviewed performance trends of the largest ESG ETFs and found that 7 of the top 25 ESG funds outperformed the S&P 500 in 2023.
